On the heels of Expressions, where the school community successfully raised over $600,000 for BSA, we are writing with an invitation for you to help us win an additional $810 million/year in funding from the city and state for all Baltimore City Schools. On Tuesday March 24th from 6:30-8pm, Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development (BUILD [buildiaf.org] - a broad-based, non-partisan, interfaith, multiracial community power organization)) is holding a Mayoral Candidate Accountability Action with the leading candidates for mayor. The purpose of the event is to share BUILD’s vision for our city, share what BUILD member institutions are willing to do rebuild our city, and ask the candidates what their vision is and how they would work with BUILD. A key ask that night will be how the candidates plan to fund the city's portion ($170M) of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future [mgaleg.maryland.gov] (aka Kirwan).
Between the two of us, we have 5 children in city schools and we have experienced first hand the impact of underfunding. Therefore, we are excited by the opportunity to be part of the team that fights to win school funding that would reverse decades of underfunding. The 50 BUILD member institutions have committed to turn out 800 people on March 24th. We have challenged ourselves to turn out 25 members of the BSA community. Will you join us?
The event is at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church - 600 South Conkling Street. It starts promptly at 6:30pm . Given the crowd size, we ask that everyone arrive and be seated by 6pm. For those needing transportation, or wanting to avoid the challenge of parking in Canton, buses will depart from the following locations:
If you sign up for buses, we will share departure times with you closer to 3/24. Also, childcare will be available at Sacred Heart of Jesus during the action.

RSVP by March 16 to reserve a seat on a bus and to sign up if you need childcare. Please include which bus, the # of seats you need, and # of children needing child care and their ages.
BUILD is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and should we need to adjust plans, we will let you know.
