Equity Audit Consent Forms Good morning BSA parents: Baltimore School for the Arts is excited to announce that the BSA community will be participating in an equity audit, beginning in April 2019. The purpose of this audit is to help BSA recognize bias and inequities, respond to these biases immediately, redress biases in a sustainable way, and create and sustain a bias-free and equitable learning environment. It is our hope that BSA can work to ensure that all students experience a learning environment that is culturally inclusive and responsive. In the month ahead, you and your child will be asked to share your experiences about your time spent at BSA through an anonymous online survey and in focus groups. Parent focus group participation is limited to a first-come, first-served basis, to maintain a valid group size. BSA students are also invited to complete an anonymous online survey to share their experiences and provide feedback about BSA policies and procedures. Students will be selected randomly to participate in student focus groups. Attached to this email, and also included below are parent consents for the following: 1. Parent Consent for Parent Survey & Focus Group 2. Parent Consent for Student Survey (They are combined into one document, but thereare two separate consent forms attached) Additionally, there are online versions of these consent forms linked below if you prefer that option. If you choose to print out and sign the paper form, please return it to Mr. Askey in his office in 306 by March 28th. Parent Survey & Focus Group Consent Form: https://form... Student Survey Consent Form: https://form... Please note that if your child is randomly selected for participation in a student focus group, you will receive a separate consent form to complete. BSA Holiday Food Drive Update ++ Good morning parents! As of today, 12/5, we have collected 374 canned and non-perishable items. The 10th graders have collected 150 items and they are currently in the "lead" for the breakfast promise. The 9th graders have collected 89 items, the 11th graders 76 items, and the 12th graders 59 items respectively. We will be collecting items until the 21st of December so if you want to keep bringing items in, please feel free to do so. Everyone has been so generous so far and we are very thankful for all the donations. I will be delivering everything we have collected so far over to the Assisi House at St. Patrick's Church in Upper Fells Point this afternoon. They primarily serve the Latinx and new immigrant families coming to Baltimore over on the east side of town. I have already taken about 10 bags of winter wear to them as well. Keep that coming too if you are able to give! We are again so appreciative of your help for fellow residents of our city. Lastly, starting next week (week of December 10th), we will be doing after-school arts enrichment titled Mi Espacio from 5-6pm on Mondays and Friday. This is an event that is sponsored by CASA de Maryland that seeks to have an afterschool youth leadership development program. The primary goal of the Mi Espacio is "to provide a supportive environment where Latino high school students can gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge they need to graduate high school and achieve their post-secondary dreams." If your child (or you!) is interested, please take a look at the attached flyer and reach out to either myself or Imbie Tamba at if you have questions. Thanks so much! Expressions Sponsorship Information Good Morning BSA Parents, As many of you know, our yearly fundraiser will take place during the first week of March; this event is called Expressions. For decades, Expressions has been one of Baltimore’s favorite annual events. Both a critical fundraiser for the school and an opportunity for the community to gather, Expressions is centered around an inspiring student performance. In order to meet the needs of our annual operating budget, this year we will need to raise a minimum of $500,000 in sponsorship dollars. Expressions 2019 will kick off on Saturday, March 2, with the Gala Opening and on Sunday, March 3, with Family Performances. Tuesday, March 5, will be the Stage One|FANS performance. We are in the process of securing sponsorships at this time and actively looking for new sponsors. If you know of a company or individual that might be interested in receiving a sponsorship request, please email me so that we can set up a time to discuss. Additionally, we are hopeful that parents who are able to will become sponsors themselves; please review the attached pdf for more information. All the best, Carter PS: Expressions ticket sales will not be available for purchase until mid-January. View File (PDF)
